Lamar, CO-The prediction of adverse weather generated opening day a week early for Broncbuster Baseball and Chris Finnegan's Garden City club was ready defeating Lamar 8-4. The Busters led 5-4 with two outs in the top of the ninth when Sophomore Kyle Lopez delivered a three run double making the score 8-4
In the top of the ninth inning leadoff batter Alex Nielson doubled. Nielson would advance to third base when Mason Brown was walked with bases loaded allowing Nielson to score giving Garden City a 5-4 lead.
Garden City picked up two runs in the top of the third powered by an RBI double from Brooks Benson scoring CJ Krainock; who reached base on a single. Alex Eskridge would later score on a Mason Brown groundout. Eskridge reached base on an error by Pitcher Darrin Cook.
The Lopers would score a run in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings to tie the score at two. Lamar would put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 4-2.
Garden City answered in the top of the seventh with back to back singles by Nielson and Krainock. Nielson would score on an Aeneas Roberson groundout and Brooks Benson's RBI single brought in Krainock knotting the score 4-4.
Garden City (1-0) returns to play Sunday at 1pm when they host Lamar (0-1) at Williams Stadium.
