Barton County shuts out Garden City

Garden City, KS-Two mistakes cost Garden City dearly on Wednesday.

Lucas Alves scored a pair of goals of Broncbuster miscues as Barton County blanked Garden City 2-0 at Broncbuster Stadium.

"This one was tough," Head Coach Charles Long said afterwards. "The boys needed this one to get into the playoffs. But we still have another shot."

The loss dropped Garden City to 9-7 overall and 1-5 in the Jayhawk Conference.

Alves got the Cougars on the board just 3:35 into the contest, drilling a 40-yard free kick to put Barton County up 1-0.

Barton County's second goal came 12 minutes into the second half when Mario Ramirez sent a diagonal feed that hit Alves in stride. The redshirt freshman did the rest, connecting with a line-drive shot into the back of the net that made it 2-0.

"Both of their goals were on set pieces," Long said. "Those things shouldn't happen."

Barton County is now 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Jayhawk.
