Western Nebraska a Tough Task

Broncbuster collected six hits, but Broncbuster fell 15-2 to Western Nebraska at Garden City, KS on Sunday.

Whitney Fields got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed two runs over 3 2/3 innings. Fields struck out two, walked four and gave up four hits.

Home runs for Western Nebraska came when Kenzie Sawyer homered in the second inning and Jessica Ball homered in the first and third innings.

Western Nebraska's Sawyer, Ball and Kelsey Bernhardt combined for eight hits and 10 RBIs.

Rachel Roe ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.

Western Nebraska went up for good in the first, scoring three runs on an error and a two-run home run by Ball.

Western Nebraska tacked on another six runs in the second. The inning got off to a hot start when Bernhardt singled, scoring Bobian. That was followed up by Fields' single, scoring Bernhardt and Ball.

Two runs in the bottom of the fourth helped Broncbuster close its deficit to 14-2. A two-run single by Skyler Doughty triggered Broncbuster's comeback. Sidney Coleman to end the Broncbuster threat.

Barb Nigon ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed 14 runs in seven innings, walked two and struck out one.

Western Nebraska never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring two runs on an error.

Western Nebraska pushed across four runs in both the fourth inning and the seventh. In the fourth, Western Nebraska scored on an RBI single by Kelsey Bernhardt, plating Bobian.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Broncbuster close its deficit to 9-3. A walk by Mattie Miller and a two-run single by Denise Dentlinger sparked Broncbuster's rally. Finally, Smith induced an inning-ending ground out from Jayde Wilson.
