Busters Open New Year With Win Over Neosho

Chanute, KS-Garden City started the New Year off defeating Neosho County 57-55 in KJCCC DI play. The Busters improve to 4-1 in KJCCC play and 10-6 overall while Neosho County falls to 1-4 and 7-6 overall respectively.

The Busters controlled the boards outrebounding the Cougars 44-35 as Garden City native Jaymie Bernbeck snagged 12 and DaRae Lewis pulled in 15. Bernbeck pulled down 6 defensive boards and 6 offensive boards while Lewis tallied 10 defensively and 5 on the offensive end.

Jenna Classen and Kavita Akula combined for 30 points scoring 15 apiece. Classen was 4-13 from the arc and 3-4 from the free throw line while Akula went 5-15 from three land.

Kascity Martin led the Cougars with 15 points while Makayla Bell and Jhanai Felix combined for 20 points scoring 10 each. Garden City resumes play at home on Wednesday January, 6th against Pratt.

The Lady Beavers (1-3-8-6) lost to Hutchinson Saturday 73-52 at Hutchinson. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 PM.
