Broncbuster volleyball shows signs during 1-3 weekend

Odessa, TX-Not much has gone well for Garden City volleyball this season. But for glimpses over the weekend at the Odessa Invitational, they showed promise.

Garden City won their first match-beating Cedar Valley in five sets: 19-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17 and 16-14 before losing their final three matches to Lamar in three, Odessa in four and Midland in three. 

"We were tired at the end of the day," Head Coach Jacquelynne Matula said. "But our serving was really good, and so was our effort."

Against Cedar Valley, setter Madison Park led the way with 21 assists while Megan Besecker had 14 kills. 

The Broncbusters then lost to Lamar 22-25, 19-25 and 24-26. Besecker again led the way with nine kills; Park had 14 assists and Bailey Martinez had 28 digs. 

"I'm proud of how we fought," Matula said. "We definitely leared some things this weekend."

In their third match, Garden City dropped a four-set decision to Odessa 25-18, 14-25, 15-25 and 17-25. Martinez had 36 digs; Besecker recorded 17 kills and the Broncbuster setters combined for 28 kills. 

Garden City appeared gassed in their final match, falling in three sets to Midland 11-25, 18-25 and 19-25. 

Garden City dropped to 3-9 overall. They are back home Monday night vs. Pratt. 6:30 match time at the Perryman Athletic Complex.
