Garden City Claims Pair of Wins in Home Doubleheader

Garden City, KS – The Garden City Community College Broncbusters returned home and put on an offensive showcase Saturday, sweeping Lamar Community College in a doubleheader at Williams Stadium. Behind explosive early innings, power at the plate, and steady pitching, Garden City controlled both games from the start.
Game 1: Garden City 15, Lamar 3
The Broncbusters wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for eight runs in the first inning and never looking back. Sean Philpotts ignited the rally with a three-run homer, and Justin Bush followed with a bases-clearing double to blow the game open. Mason Tafoya and Sean Togher each added RBI knocks in the inning as Garden City built a commanding lead.
Philpotts stayed hot with a second home run in the second inning, finishing the game with two long balls and five RBI. Togher homered and drove in three, while Tafoya delivered a four-hit day with two RBI and two stolen bases at the top of the lineup.
On the mound, Walker Maximick earned the win with four strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. Gabe Grandy closed it out as the Broncbusters piled up 13 hits and three home runs in the 15–3 victory .
Game 2: Garden City 11, Lamar 1
The momentum carried into the nightcap as Garden City again struck early, plating runs in the first and second before breaking the game open with a four-run fourth and another four-run eighth.
Sean Togher and Will Togher each drove in two runs, while Sean Philpotts added two RBI of his own. Sawyer Marshall, Cael Hamrick, Roy Higinbotham, and Damon Hernandez all contributed RBI as the Broncbusters showcased depth throughout the lineup. Garden City also pressured Lamar on the bases, racking up multiple steals to keep the defense on edge.
Kaige Kennedy set the tone on the mound with four scoreless innings to earn the win. Nate Mountjoy and Noah Humphreys combined to limit Lamar to just one run as Garden City sealed the 11–1 win and the sweep .
With the sweep, the Broncbusters displayed a balanced attack and strong pitching at home—an encouraging sign as the season gains momentum.
