Garden City Erupts for 22 Runs to Take Game 1 Over Otero

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College answered an early deficit with a relentless offensive surge, defeating Otero College 22-15 in Game 1 of a home doubleheader Tuesday.
The Broncbusters totaled 20 hits and scored in six different innings, overcoming a seven-run first inning by Otero with a decisive nine-run second to seize control.
Otero came out hot, stringing together eight hits in the opening frame to build a 7-0 lead. Garden City responded quickly in the bottom half, as Karson Evans delivered a two-run home run to get the Broncbusters on the board.
The momentum fully shifted in the second inning when Garden City erupted for nine runs on eight hits. Will Togher sparked the rally with an RBI double, Cael Hamrick followed with an RBI single, and Aiden Roberts delivered a two-run double. Later in the inning, Hamrick broke it open with a three-run triple as the Broncbusters surged in front.
Otero answered with four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run double from Antonio Zamora, but Garden City continued to respond. Sean Togher launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, and Aiden Roberts added an RBI single in the fourth to maintain the lead.
The Broncbusters created further separation in the fifth inning, scoring five runs behind RBI hits from Sawyer Marshall and Karson Evans while capitalizing on Otero miscues. Garden City added three more runs in the sixth, including a two-run single from Sean Togher, to extend the advantage.
Otero continued to battle, scoring twice in the fifth and adding two more in the sixth, but Garden City's offense proved too much to overcome. The Broncbusters closed out the game in the seventh, holding Otero scoreless in the final frame to secure the victory.
Hamrick led the offensive effort with a three-hit performance and four RBI, while Togher and Roberts each drove in multiple runs. Marshall added a multi-RBI game, and Evans provided an early spark with his first-inning home run.
