Late Push by Hutchinson Downs Broncbusters in Game 1

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College struck early but could not contain a late offensive surge from Hutchinson Community College, falling 18-3 in Game 1 of a home doubleheader Wednesday.
The Broncbusters (21-32, 11-18) plated the game's first run in the opening inning when Mason Tafoya scored on an RBI double from Sean Togher, but Hutchinson answered immediately and steadily built momentum throughout the afternoon.
Hutchinson jumped in front with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Jackson Schanuel and a sacrifice fly from Elias Duncan to take a 3-1 lead. The Blue Dragons added another run in the second before extending their advantage in the fourth on a two-run home run from Anthony Mazza.
Garden City was limited offensively over the middle innings despite collecting six hits in the game. Aiden Roberts recorded a multi-hit performance, while Togher accounted for the team's lone extra-base hit and RBI.
The Broncbusters found a brief spark in the sixth inning. Roberts and Togher reached base to set the table before Karson Evans drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Aiden Wilson followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 6-3.
Hutchinson responded decisively in the seventh inning, erupting for 12 runs on seven hits, including multiple RBI singles, a three-run home run from Cru Huenfeld, and a two-run shot from Diesel Purnell to break the game open.
On the mound, Garden City used four pitchers, with Joe Baumbach working the first four innings before Nate Mountjoy, Kaden Baete, and Dominic Skjonsberg combined in relief.
Hutchinson finished with 15 hits and 18 runs, with Schanuel, Huenfeld, and Purnell each driving in at least three runs.
