Broncbusters Respond with 11-8 Win to Split Doubleheader with Hutch

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College answered a Game 1 loss with an offensive surge, defeating Hutchinson Community College 11-8 in Game 2 of a home doubleheader Tuesday.
The Broncbusters (22-32, 12-18) piled up 13 hits and used three straight multi-run innings in the middle frames to build a lead they would not surrender.
Garden City broke through in the third inning, plating four runs to flip an early deficit. Karson Evans delivered a two-run double before Sean Philpotts followed with an RBI double. Will Togher capped the inning with an RBI single, giving the Broncbusters a 4-2 advantage.
The momentum continued in the fourth. After loading the bases, Sean Togher and Evans were both hit by pitches to force in runs, and Philpotts added an RBI walk to extend the lead to 7-2.
Garden City kept the pressure on in the fifth inning. Mason Tafoya drove in a run with a single before Sean Togher delivered the biggest swing of the game, launching a two-run home run to push the advantage to 10-4.
Hutchinson chipped away late, scoring two runs in the seventh and adding two more in the ninth, highlighted by a solo home run from Jordan Kuhnau. The Blue Dragons brought the tying run to the plate in the final inning, but the Broncbusters were able to close it out.
At the plate, Garden City was led by a balanced attack. Will Togher finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Sean Togher recorded three RBI, including his home run. Evans added three RBI, and Philpotts drove in two runs. Tafoya scored three times to pace the offense.
On the mound, Corey Williams provided a steady start, allowing two runs over four innings. Kaige Kennedy worked the final five innings to earn the win, striking out four while navigating late pressure.
