Garden City, KS-Making his first career start, defensive back Elijah Deravil definitely left his mark.
Following a 20-0 win over Coffeyville on Saturday, the freshman corner was named the Jayhawk Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
"I thought our backups played really well," Head Coach Tom Minnick said. "We had some of our main guys out, but our reserves stepped up in a big way."
Deravil snagged two interceptions, helping limit the Red Ravens to just 55 total yards through three quarters. He added four tackles and a pass breakup.
Garden City closes the regular season Saturday night at Butler.
