Garden City, KS — Battling fierce Kansas winds that limited the passing and kicking game, the Garden City Broncbusters adjusted on the ground and leaned on a dominant defense to earn a 35–7 victory over Independence Community College on Saturday at Broncbuster Stadium.
Even in swirling conditions, kicker Lucca Alcaraz Valens still managed to make an impact — including one booming kickoff that drilled a review camera in the endzone.
Defensive Statement
The Broncbuster defense once again stole the show. Sophomore safety Asher Horn came up huge with two interceptions, including a pick-six in the third quarter that broke the game open. Garden City's front seven was relentless, forcing multiple turnovers and holding the Pirates scoreless after the first quarter.
Burton and the Ground Game Shine
With the wind neutralizing the air attack, the Busters went to work on the ground — led by Tylik Burton, who powered through tackles and ripped off chunk runs throughout the day.
Quarterback Jaydyn Sisk contributed both with his arm and legs, tossing touchdowns to Ahmir Smith and Donovan Moore while helping sustain drives with timely runs.
Garden City controlled the tempo and field position all afternoon, closing out another physical Jayhawk Conference win.
Next Up
The Broncbusters (5–1) head into a bye week before returning home for a highly anticipated Jayhawk Conference matchup. Garden City is back in action October 25 at 7:00 p.m., hosting Butler Community College at Broncbuster Stadium.
