Broncbusters Fall in Overtime Heartbreaker in Final Home Game

Garden City, KS — In a back-and-forth defensive battle on a perfect football afternoon at newly named Bob Larson Field, Garden City pushed Iowa Central to the wire but came up short 23–17 in overtime on Saturday, closing out the home portion of the schedule at 6–4 overall.
Early Control, Physical Tone
Garden City opened strong with a 13-play scoring drive late in the first quarter, capped by a 2-yard touchdown run from Ahmir Smith to make it 7–0. Iowa Central responded early in the second with a touchdown, then added another scoring drive just before halftime to move in front 14–7.
The Broncbuster defense continued to be the anchor, holding Iowa Central to 249 total yards while forcing momentum-shifting stops throughout the afternoon.
Late Comeback, Overtime Decided
Lucca Alcaraz converted a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 17–10. With under a minute remaining, Smith punched in his second touchdown from two yards out to force overtime.
Garden City received the ball first in the extra period but was unable to capitalize, missing a 37-yard field goal. Iowa Central then finished the game with a short rushing score to win it.
Smith finished with two rushing touchdowns, while Cenard Bennett led the receiving attack with six catches for 71 yards.
