Broncbusters win home opener thriller over North Platte

Garden City, KS - Garden City stayed hot to open the 2025–26 campaign, outlasting North Platte Community College in a high-scoring affair, 106–100, Wednesday afternoon at Conestoga Arena .
The Broncbusters (3–0) jumped out early, building a 19-point first-half lead behind efficient shooting and intense defensive pressure that forced turnovers and disrupted North Platte's rhythm. Garden City's 54–35 halftime advantage proved just enough cushion as the Knights mounted a furious second-half push, but clutch free-throw shooting and composed playmaking down the stretch sealed the win.
Sophomore guard Devonte Reed continued his stellar start to the season, recording 27 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals, notching a double-double while attacking from all over the floor. Jordon Nevill caught fire from deep again, connecting on five three-pointers and finishing with 19 points, while Zaire Lott poured in 14 points and added two rebounds off the bench.
Dasean Lewis filled the stat sheet with 11 points and five assists, and Jamir Westry anchored the offense with eight points, seven assists, and five rebounds, showcasing his growing leadership at the point. The Broncbusters shared the ball well, finishing with 21 assists on 31 made field goals, and once again thrived at the free-throw line — converting 30-of-35 (85.7%) attempts .
Defensively, Garden City forced 27 turnovers, turning them into 40 points, and held North Platte to just 47 percent shooting despite a red-hot second half. The win marked another strong showing for a team averaging over 100 points per game through its first three contests.
North Platte's Justus Michael led all scorers with 25 points, while Dennis Rocha added 15 and Brandon Domschchipped in 16 for the Knights, who battled until the final horn.
With the victory, Garden City remains unbeaten at 3–0 heading into its next test.
