Garden City, KS — It was a night for the record books inside Conestoga Arena as Garden City men's basketball put on an offensive clinic, setting a new all-time program scoring record in a 152–76 rout of Bethany JV on Friday evening .
The Broncbusters' 152 points broke the previous mark of 132, set on January 15, 2022, against Hutchinson Community College. In a twist of fate, that record was set against then-Hutchinson head coach Tommy DeSalme—who now, as Garden City's head coach, guided his Broncbusters to surpass it. The milestone marks a full-circle moment for DeSalme, whose trademark high-tempo style has quickly turned Garden City into one of the most exciting offensive teams in the KJCCC.
From the opening tip, Garden City (5–0) overwhelmed Bethany with speed, precision, and depth. The Broncbusters exploded for 89 first-half points, shooting 63 percent from the field and 46 percent from deep. Their defensive pressure created chaos for the visitors, forcing 27 turnovers and turning them into 42 points.
Mangok Gach led the record-setting performance with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting, drilling four three-pointers and grabbing eight rebounds. Devonte Reed added 24 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Jordon Nevill continued his red-hot form from beyond the arc, finishing with 21 points and five assists.
The Broncbusters' depth was once again on full display — Xavier Johnson tallied 20 points and eight rebounds, Nico Doume added 15 and six, and Lucas Kalimba nearly posted a triple-double with 11 points, nine boards, and seven assists. Garden City shot a blistering 61 percent from the floor, hitting 15 three-pointers and collecting 38 assists on 63 made shots .
Defensively, Garden City dominated the glass 57–21 and outscored Bethany 90–46 in the paint. The Broncbusters also tallied 20 steals, showcasing their aggressive, full-court identity that has fueled their unbeaten start.
Now 4–0, the Broncbusters are averaging an astounding 118 points per game, standing atop the KJCCC in scoring as they continue to build early-season momentum.
Next up: Garden City returns to Conestoga Arena on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m., hosting Otero College.
