Dufrenoy’s Ace Highlights Opening Round at NJCAA National Championship

NEWTON, KS – Garden City Community College opened play at the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship with a solid first-round performance Tuesday at Sand Creek Station, finishing the day 15th overall at +26 in a nationally ranked field.
The Broncbusters were led by sophomore Ilan Dufrenoy, who carded a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for ninth overall, just two shots off the tournament lead entering round two of the four-day championship.
Dufrenoy delivered one of the top moments of the opening round on the par-3 17th hole, holing out a 50-degree wedge from 155 yards for a hole-in-one. He finished the day with two birdies, the ace and 10 pars while playing the back nine in 1-under-par.
Carson French added a steady 4-over-par 76 for Garden City. French totaled two birdies and 10 pars during his round, highlighted by birdies on holes 15 and 16 on the back nine.
Miguel Silveira posted a 9-over 81 while recording three birdies and seven pars. Silveira picked up birdies on holes seven, 11 and 18 to lead the Broncbusters in birdies for the round.
Oliver Crowley finished at 12-over-par 84, tallying two birdies and six pars during the opening day of competition.
Miles Dickinson rounded out the Garden City scoring group with a 13-over 85, recording eight pars while battling through difficult conditions throughout the round.
As a team, the Broncbusters combined for nine birdies, one hole-in-one and 41 pars during the opening round against one of the deepest fields in junior college golf.
The NJCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship continues Wednesday with round two at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas.
