Wichita, KS-Corey Bryant was searching for that singular moment, one that would define the 2021 season. And while that might sound dramatic for an early week showdown in late Sept., the magnitude of Monday's moment cannot be understated.
The Broncbusters erased a 3-0 deficit, Theom Samba netted the game winner in the final seconds, and Garden City topped Kansas City, 4-3 at Striker Field.
However, the first 63 minutes of the match were easy to forget. The Blue Devils dominated the first half. Pedro Faria scored 11 minutes into the match, Matheus Cunha added another goal in the 34th minute, and Faria tallied what appeared to be a backbreaker in the 63rd minute that gave Kansas City a 3-0 edge.
But the light switch finally came on in the 70th minute for Garden City. Luis Milan setup Guilherme Girotto for the Broncbusters first goal. Four minutes later, Samba dished to Cian Carty, who found a sliver of daylight before depositing a rocket in the back of the net. Then, it was Douglas Moura, notching the equalizer in the 78th minute.
Cue the dramatics.
Neither team did much over the next 12 minutes. But with seconds to spare, Samba rifled one past the keeper to give Garden City its first conference win of the season.
The Broncbusters won the match despite being outshot 23-13. Levi Flores recorded 11 saves.
Next up: Garden City vs. Barton-Wednesday, Sept. 22-6 p.m.
