GARDEN CITY, Kan. — The Garden City Community College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 6–1 decision to Barton Community College on Saturday evening at Broncbuster Stadium, despite creating several quality chances and competing evenly through much of the first half.
Barton jumped out to a quick 2–0 advantage within the opening 10 minutes, including an early strike and an unfortunate own goal. The Broncbusters responded with intensity — Mateo Prigent put Garden City on the board in the 19th minute off a smooth assist from Hugo Gomez, cutting the deficit to 2–1 and giving the home side new life.
Garden City continued to push forward with offensive pressure led by Yanis Aubaret, Facundo Nunez, and Jose Navarro, but Barton capitalized on its set-piece opportunities to pull away late. Goalkeeper Ilian Badji faced heavy traffic in goal, making several key stops to keep the match within reach before the Cougars added a pair of late goals.
Defensively, Tesnim Makes and Thomas Mututala anchored the back line against Barton's aggressive attack, while the midfield unit showed flashes of strong ball control and transition play throughout the night.
With the result, Garden City moves to 9–4–2 overall and 3–4 in Jayhawk Conference play as the team looks to regroup heading into a crucial road stretch.
