Broncbusters Sweep Otero in La Junta with Back-to-Back Offensive Showings

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College softball opened its February slate in dominant fashion on Sunday, sweeping Otero College in a road doubleheader at La Junta behind explosive offense and aggressive baserunning.
The Broncbusters plated 30 total runs across the two games and used big innings in each contest to take control early and never look back.
Game 1: Garden City 15, Otero 3
Garden City broke the opener wide open with a four-run second inning followed by a six-run third, quickly creating separation on the scoreboard. The Broncbusters finished with 14 hits and constantly pressured Otero with their speed.
Danna Viera set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Maiarangi Waipara added three hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Averie Ashford scored three times and drove in a run. Isabella Stevenson-Del Torto and Michela Pugliese-Levi each delivered two RBI, and Izzy Foster added two more to round out the balanced attack.
In the circle, Samantha Torres earned the win with three strong innings, allowing just one hit. Maddie Scott handled the final two frames as Garden City limited Otero to three total hits.
Game 2: Garden City 15, Otero 6
The bats stayed hot in the nightcap, highlighted by a massive 14-run second inning that put Garden City firmly in control. The Broncbusters capitalized on walks and timely hits, finishing with nine hits and nine free passes.
Maysen Kurene-Iwikau provided the biggest swing of the day with a home run and five RBI. Jade Hendrix recorded two hits and two RBI, while Lexy Hickey doubled and drove in two. Stevenson-Del Torto and Foster also knocked in two runs apiece, and Ashford crossed the plate three times as Garden City kept the pressure on all game long.
Valeria Mandujano went the distance to earn the win, striking out three over five innings. Although Otero collected 10 hits, Garden City's early offensive surge proved more than enough to complete the sweep.
With the two wins, the Broncbusters showcased depth throughout the lineup and a relentless approach on the bases—signs of a team hitting its stride early in the season.
Next Up: Garden City returns home to open its home schedule against McCook Community College, as the Broncbusters look to carry their early-season momentum in front of the home crowd.
