Garden City’s Bats Stay Hot in Doubleheader Sweep

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College softball protected home field on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Otero College, using timely power and big innings to stay in control across both contests.
The Broncbusters combined for 24 runs on the day and answered every Otero push with offense of their own, showcasing depth throughout the lineup.
Game 1: Garden City 15, Otero 7
Garden City jumped out early with three runs in the first inning, but Otero answered with a four-run second and three more in the third to briefly take the lead. The Broncbusters quickly flipped momentum back in their favor.
Izzy Foster sparked the rally with an RBI double before Danna Viera launched a two-run home run to retake the lead. Moments later, Maysen Kurene-Iwikau added a solo homer as Garden City surged ahead.
The Broncbusters broke the game open in the fourth, plating six runs. Viera finished with three RBI, Kurene-Iwikau drove in three and scored three times, and Maiarangi Waipara delivered three RBI of her own. Reagan Sword and Foster each crossed the plate three times as Garden City applied constant pressure.
In the circle, Samantha Torres earned the win, and Maddie Scott provided strong relief to close the door on the comeback effort .
Game 2: Garden City 9, Otero 1
The nightcap featured a tighter start before Garden City's bats erupted in the third. Trailing 1–0, the Broncbusters exploded for five runs in the inning to seize control for good.
The biggest swing came from Isabella Stevenson-Del Torto, who crushed two home runs and drove in seven RBI, delivering one of the most dominant individual performances of the season. Averie Ashford added two hits and two runs, while Lexy Hickey drove in a run and swiped a base.
Valeria Mandujano was sharp in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on four hits to secure the sweep .
Garden City's ability to answer adversity and produce big innings proved decisive throughout the day. The Broncbusters showed power, patience, and depth as they continued to build momentum in the early season.
Next Up: Garden City remains at home to face Western Nebraska Community College on Sunday, February 15th, 2026, with first pitch set for 1:00 PM.
