Big Second Inning Lifts Trinidad State Past Garden City

Trinidad, CO – Garden City Community College softball dropped a road contest to Trinidad State College on Sunday afternoon, falling 14–6 in a game that featured early power swings and a big second inning from the host side.
The Broncbusters collected nine hits and produced multiple extra-base knocks, but Trinidad State capitalized on a nine-run second inning to take control.
Garden City broke through in the second inning with a run and followed with a four-run third to tighten the game. Maysen Kurene-Iwikau delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a home run and finishing with four RBI. Isabella Stevenson-Del Torto also went deep, adding a solo homer and driving in a run.
Danna Viera paced the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Reagan Sword added two hits. Kurene-Iwikau also doubled, and the Broncbusters stayed aggressive on the bases with multiple stolen bags.
Despite the offensive effort, Trinidad State's power proved decisive. Calee Sharp launched two home runs and drove in five, while the home team tallied 13 hits overall to build and maintain separation .
Garden City continued to battle through the middle innings, but defensive miscues and timely extra-base hits by Trinidad State extended the deficit in the 14–6 final.
Next Up: The Broncbusters return home to host Clarendon College on Tuesday, February 24th at Tangeman Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
