Garden City Falls 7-0 in Game 2 at Hutchinson

Hutchinson, KS – Garden City Community College was shut out in Game 2 of a road doubleheader Wednesday, falling 7-0 to Hutchinson Community College at Fun Valley.
The Broncbusters (26-22, 13-13) were unable to generate sustained offense, finishing with four hits while leaving eight runners on base in the loss.
Hutchinson took control early, capitalizing on miscues to plate an unearned run in the first inning before adding single runs in both the second and third to build a 3-0 advantage. The Blue Dragons continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings, extending the lead with another run in the fifth.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning, when Hutchinson used aggressive baserunning and timely hitting to push across three runs, stretching the margin to 7-0 and putting the game out of reach.
Garden City had opportunities to respond, including a scoring chance in the sixth after putting multiple runners on base, but could not deliver the key hit to break through.
Averie Ashford led the Broncbusters offensively with two hits, including a triple, while Danna Viera added a double. Jade Hendrix also recorded a hit as part of Garden City's four-hit effort.
In the circle, Ashlyn Powell took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) over 3.1 innings. Garden City used three additional pitchers in relief, but Hutchinson capitalized on walks and hit-by-pitches to maintain offensive pressure.
