Broncbusters Torch Fort Hays Tech Northwest from Deep, Roll to 74–51 Road Win
Goodland, KS—After a whistle-filled first quarter, the Garden City Community College women's basketball team settled in and took control, using a huge third-quarter surge to pull away from Fort Hays Tech Northwest in a 74–51 road victory Tuesday night at Max L. Jones Fieldhouse.
Trailing 14–11 after the opening period, the Broncbusters responded with a 20–14 second quarter to grab a 31–28 halftime lead, sparked by aggressive drives from Deija Roberson and timely jumpers from Luana Luz. The third quarter was all Garden City—behind hot shooting from Elektra Mjoll, Luz, and London Turner, the Busters ripped off a 26–14 frame to blow the game open at 57–42 heading to the fourth.
Turner was unstoppable in transition and in the half court, finishing with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, plus 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Mjoll buried four three-pointers on her way to 13 points, while Luz matched her with 13 points on 6-of-8 from the field. Roberson provided a strong interior presence with 10 points and 3 boards, and Caryle Fortasanchored the glass with 9 rebounds, 4 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
As a team, Garden City shot 49% from the floor and 41% from three, turning defensive pressure into offense with 22 points off turnovers and overwhelming Fort Hays in bench scoring 34–16. The Broncbusters also owned the paint, holding a 32–24 edge in points inside in a complete road performance.
With the win, Garden City improves to 7–1 overall and 2–1 in Jayhawk Conference play, continuing their strong early-season run.
