Locked In: Broncbusters Dominate Indy in 48-Point Win
Independence, KS —Garden City left little doubt on Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Independence from the opening tip in an 80–32 road win to move to 9–1 overall and 4–1 in Jayhawk Conference play.
The Broncbusters set the tone with a 13–3 first quarter, stringing together an 8–0 start behind early buckets from Deija Roberson and Sokhna Ndiaye and a transition layup by London Turner. Garden City's defense was suffocating, holding the Pirates without a field goal for more than seven minutes and forcing turnover after turnover to control the tempo.
Garden City blew the game open in the second period, outscoring Independence 31–8 to take a 44–11 lead into the locker room. Elektra Mjoll caught fire from deep, knocking down multiple threes, while Paula Fernandez and Luana Luz joined the barrage from the perimeter. The Broncbusters turned Pirate miscues into instant offense, piling up 40 points off turnovers and 15 second-chance points by the final horn.
The advantage only grew after halftime. Turner slashed to the rim, Ndiaye continued to finish in the paint, and Garden City's bench kept the pressure on, contributing 38 points and helping stretch the margin to 63–26 after three quarters. With the game in hand, the Broncbusters closed out a dominant defensive performance, limiting Independence to just nine made field goals and 24.3 percent shooting for the game.
Ndiaye led a balanced attack with 17 points and five rebounds, while Mjoll added 12 points—all from beyond the arc. Luz and Fernandez each chipped in 11, and Caryle Fortas finished with seven points and four boards. Marshea Fisher stuffed the stat sheet with five points, a team-high eight assists, and four steals as Garden City shot 46.5 percent from the floor and 10-of-23 from three.
