ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Garden City Community College women's soccer team battled nationally ranked No. 8 Cowley Community College for most of the afternoon before falling 5–2 on the road Wednesday.
After conceding an early goal, Garden City settled in defensively and began to find rhythm through midfield play. The Broncbusters came alive after halftime — Angelica Gallo scored just 40 seconds into the second half to tie the match 1–1. Moments later, Natalia Simbaqueva gave the Broncbusters the lead in the 65th minute, finishing off a rebound to put Garden City up 2–1.
Despite the strong surge, Cowley's offense rallied with four unanswered goals over the final 25 minutes. Goalkeeper Millie D'Ath recorded another stellar performance, making several tough saves — including multiple diving stops — to keep the Busters in the match.
Maria Galisteo and Ariel Martinez controlled possession and helped create both scoring sequences, while Alessandra Tovar anchored the back line with her usual defensive composure against one of the nation's top-ranked attacks.
With the result, Garden City moves to 9–5–3 overall and 4–5–2 in Jayhawk Conference play.
