Garden City Drops Road Matchup to Utah State Eastern
Trinidad, CO – Garden City Community College softball dropped a road matchup to Utah State Eastern on Sunday, falling 11–7 despite a strong offensive performance that produced 12 hits and two home runs.
The Broncbusters showed fight throughout, but a pair of big innings by Utah State Eastern proved to be the difference.
Utah State Eastern struck first with three runs in the second and followed with a five-run third to build early separation. Garden City responded in the middle innings, scoring one in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth to claw back into the contest.
Danna Viera paced the offense with three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Maysen Kurene-Iwikau added two doubles and an RBI, while Isabella Stevenson-Del Torto delivered the biggest swings of the day, launching two home runs and finishing with three RBI.
Averie Ashford chipped in a double and scored a run, and Maddie Scott helped her own cause with an RBI knock out of the pitcher's spot. Garden City continued to apply pressure on the bases with multiple stolen bags.
In the circle, Skylah Breeze Joyce took the loss after 2.2 innings of work, while Maddie Scott provided steady relief over the final 3.1 innings. Utah State Eastern capitalized on eight walks and a three-run homer from Jayda Spight to maintain control .
Garden City's offense showed consistency throughout the lineup, but defensive miscues and timely hits from Utah State Eastern ultimately proved costly in the 11–7 decision.
The Broncbusters will look to regroup as they continue their road stretch.
