Broncbusters Split on Day 2 in Midwest City

Midwest City, OK – Garden City Community College softball split its pair of games Saturday on Day 2 of the Visit Midwest City Tournament, overpowering Frank Phillips College in the opener before falling to North Dakota State College of Science in the afternoon matchup.
The Broncbusters showcased explosive offense in Game 1 and a strong pitching effort in Game 2, continuing a competitive weekend of tournament play.
Game 1: Garden City 17, Frank Phillips 5
The Broncbusters erupted early and never looked back in Saturday's opener, scoring 10 runs in the first inning to immediately seize control.
Maysen Kurene-Iwikau led the power surge with two home runs and four RBI, while Maiarangi Waipara delivered a monster performance, going 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI of her own. Reagan Sword added a three-run homer, and Izzy Foster chipped in a four-RBI day to round out a relentless offensive attack.
Garden City finished with 14 hits, including five home runs, and capitalized on key extra-base opportunities to keep the pressure on throughout the game. Valeria Mandujano earned the win in the circle, working four innings before Samantha Torres closed out the final frame in the 17–5 victory .
Game 2: North Dakota State College of Science 4, Garden City 1
The afternoon contest featured a tighter defensive battle, with Garden City striking first in the second inning on an RBI from Michela Pugliese-Levi.
Skylah Breeze Joyce delivered a strong outing in the circle, tossing a complete six innings and striking out seven. The game remained scoreless through five innings before North Dakota State College of Science broke through with a four-run sixth, highlighted by a two-run home run.
Garden City totaled six hits, with contributions from Danna Viera, Maysen Kurene-Iwikau, Maiarangi Waipara, and Reagan Sword, but the late surge proved decisive in the 4–1 loss .
The Broncbusters continue to show balance between power hitting and steady pitching as tournament play winds down.
Next Up: Sunday, March 1st marks the final day of the Visit Midwest City Tournament. Garden City is scheduled to face North Dakota State College of Science at 9:00 AM, followed by Kirkwood Community College at 1:00 PM.
