Garden City Wraps Up Midwest City Tournament

Midwest City, OK – Garden City Community College softball wrapped up play at the Visit Midwest City Tournament on Sunday, dropping a pair of competitive matchups to North Dakota State College of Science and Kirkwood Community College on Day 3.
The Broncbusters showed offensive sparks in both contests but were unable to overcome key innings by their opponents as tournament play concluded.
Game 1: North Dakota State College of Science 8, Garden City 7
The opener was a back-and-forth battle that saw Garden City rally with a five-run third inning to take control midway through the game.
Maysen Kurene-Iwikau led the offense with two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Maiarangi Waipara added two hits and an RBI, while Reagan Sword delivered a three-RBI performance. The Broncbusters capitalized on North Dakota State miscues and aggressive baserunning to build a 7–6 advantage after four innings.
However, North Dakota State answered early with a pair of big innings and held off the late push to secure the 8–7 decision. Garden City finished with eight hits but was hurt by five defensive errors in the contest .
Game 2: Kirkwood Community College 6, Garden City 1
In the afternoon matchup, the Broncbusters were locked in a scoreless contest through three innings before Kirkwood broke through with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run.
Jade Hendrix paced Garden City with two hits, while Maysen Kurene-Iwikau drove in the lone run of the game. Reagan Sword and Zoey Torres each added a hit as the Broncbusters totaled five on the afternoon.
Skylah Breeze Joyce started in the circle and worked four innings before Ashlyn Powell handled the final two. Kirkwood's timely power and five walks drawn proved to be the difference in the 6–1 final .
Garden City battled throughout the weekend in Midwest City, showing resilience in tight games and continuing to produce at the plate against quality competition.
Next Up: The Broncbusters return to conference play Wednesday, March 4th, hosting Colby Community College with first pitch set for 2:00 PM.
