Nine-Run First Powers Garden City Past Pratt in Game 1 Rout

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College erupted for nine runs in the opening inning and never looked back, cruising to a 13-0 win over Pratt Community College in Game 1 of a home doubleheader Friday.
The Broncbusters set the tone immediately, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning, timely extra-base hits, and Pratt miscues to seize full control before the Beavers could settle in.
Garden City struck quickly in the bottom of the first after a leadoff triple from Danna Viera ignited the offense. Jade Hendrix followed with a bunt single, and the Broncbusters continued to apply pressure as Maysen Kurene-Iwikau drove in a run on an error. Zoey Torres delivered a key two-run double, while Averie Ashford added an RBI on a sacrifice play. Reagan Sword chipped in with an RBI double, and Izzy Foster capped the inning with a two-run bunt single as Garden City surged to a 9-0 advantage.
The momentum carried into the second inning when Skylah Breeze Joyce launched a solo home run to extend the lead to 10-0.
After a quiet third inning, the Broncbusters added insurance in the fourth. Torres delivered another RBI double, and Foster came through again as two additional runs crossed following an outfield error, pushing the lead to 13-0.
In the circle, Garden City pitching was dominant from start to finish. The Broncbusters held Pratt to just three hits while keeping the Beavers off the scoreboard across five innings, backed by a clean defensive effort and strong command in the circle.
Torres led the offense with multiple doubles and three RBI, while Foster drove in multiple runs and contributed key hits during the opening surge. Joyce added a home run, and Viera set the tone at the top of the lineup with a triple as part of a balanced 12-hit performance.
